Frequently Asked Questions
Here, you’ll find answers to questions most often asked by parents:
I know my child is falling behind, how can you help me?
If you suspect your child is falling behind, we can help by conducting a thorough review of their current educational situation. We’ll work with you to understand your child’s specific needs and ensure that their educational plan is tailored to support them effectively. From analyzing existing evaluations to recommending additional assessments, we will advocate for the necessary services and accommodations to help your child thrive. Our goal is to ensure your child gets the support they need to succeed academically and emotionally.
The school doesn’t agree with me that my student needs more help, how can you help me?
When there’s a disagreement about your child’s needs, we step in to provide expert guidance and support. We can help you understand your rights and the school’s obligations under special education laws. Our role includes helping you gather evidence, request and interpret evaluations, and prepare for meetings. We will work to bridge the gap between you and the school, advocating for the appropriate services and accommodations your child requires.
What if I’m not in your state?
While our services are based locally, we can provide guidance and support to families across different states. Special Education Law is FEDERAL LAW. We can offer remote consultations, help you understand your local special education laws, and provide strategies for effectively working with your child’s school. We also offer referrals to trusted advocates and attorneys in your area who can assist with your specific needs.
Can I just use online resources and get the same results in the PPT meeting?
Online resources can be helpful, but they often lack the personalized touch and depth of knowledge that an experienced advocate provides. We offer tailored advice based on your child’s unique situation and ensure that you understand how to effectively use resources and data in meetings. Our expertise includes interpreting complex regulations and advocating on your behalf, which can significantly increase the likelihood of achieving favorable outcomes for your child and reduce the time it will take to get the appropriate plan in place.
What are the advantages to using an advocate?
Using a special education advocate brings several advantages:
Expertise: We have in-depth knowledge of special education laws and best practices.
Experience: We understand the school system and how to navigate it effectively.
Advocacy: We act as a liaison between you and the school, ensuring your child’s needs are clearly communicated and addressed.
Preparation: We help you prepare for meetings, including developing strategies and organizing necessary documentation.
Peace of Mind: Knowing you have an expert on your side can alleviate stress and ensure your child receives the appropriate support.
What if I have already met with the school team for a PPT meeting and they didn’t listen to our concerns, and made suggestions we don’t agree with? Can you still help us?
Absolutely. Even if a meeting has already taken place, we can still assist you. We can review the meeting’s outcomes, help you understand your options for challenging or revising the decisions, and guide you on how to request additional evaluations or meetings. Our goal is to ensure your concerns are addressed and to work towards a solution that best supports your child’s needs.
